Members of the FAITID Board Among the Founders of the ISOC Chapter in Russia

March 13, 2012 at the ISOC meeting held at the 43rd International Public ICANN meeting in Costa Rica the representatives of Russia, the President of the Foundation for Assistance for Internet Technologies and Infrastructure Development, Alexander Panov and the Director of Webnames.ru, Sergey Sharikov, presented to ISOC Director Ted Mooney an official application for the establishment of the ISOC Chapter in Russia affiliated to the global Internet Society (ISOC).   

The initiative to establish the ISOC Chapter in Russia was proposed by Sergey Sharikov and Alexey Sozonov a couple of months ago and was supported by well-known figures of Russian Internet community. Director of the Russian Institute for Public Networks (RIPN) Alexey Platonov and vice-rector of the Moscow State University Alexey Soldatov, Director of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU Andrey Kolesnikov and Deputy Director of the Technical Center for Internet Marina Nikerova, Board member of the RIPE NCC Dmitry Burkov, Director of Russian Association for Electronic Communications Sergey Plugotarenko, vice-president of Mail.ru Mikhail Yakushev and the chief editor of PC Magazine/RE Oleg Lebedev supported the initiative and were among the founders of the ISOC Chapter in Russia.
 
Engaging the activity of individuals who want to influence the future of the Internet, companies, government agencies and foundations, involved in the development of the Internet and its technologies, ISOC Chapter in Russia will try to achieve the following goals:

  • Development, support and dissemination of the Internet standards and Internet technologies and applications;
  • Growth and development of the Internet architecture;
  • Technical assistance and development of effective administrative processes necessary for the Internet functioning;
  • Education and research related to the Internet;
  • Assistance for developing regions through the implementation and development of the Internet infrastructure and its use;
  • Development of Russian Internet address system, support for the new Cyrillic top-level domains;
  • Harmonization of actions and activities at international level in order to facilitate the development and availability of the Internet.
