FAITID Representatives Are Taking Part in the International Conference for ccTLD Registries and Registrars of CIS, Central and Eastern Europe

September 11, the 5th International Conference for ccTLD Registries and Registrars of CIS, Central and Eastern Europe was opened in Budva, Montenegro. This conference has been organized by the Coordination Center for TLD RU/РФ. The forum is supported by doMEn, a company performing registry functions for .ME, ccTLD domain of Montenegro. More than 100 domain industry’s experts participate in the conference.

Vujica Lazović, Deputy Prime Minister for Economy and the Minister for Information Society and Telecommunications of the Republic of Montenegro, opened the event with a welcoming speech. He gave attendees of the conference short overview of .ME successful development.

Vujica Lazović pointed out that .ME managed to turn into a generic domain – today names in the domain are registered by users from all over the world, for national as well as for the international Internet projects.

“.ME is in TOP 4 most popular domains for startups,” said Vujica Lazović. The Minister stressed that the successful development of the domain is a good example of the effective public-private partnership: .ME is managed by a private company doMEn in a close cooperation with the Government of Montenegro.

Vujica Lazović’s speech was followed by the presentation made by Andrey Kolesnikov, Director of the Coordination Center for TLD RU/РФ, on the current state of the Russian domain name market. In particular, Andrey Kolesnikov noted the fluctuation in the number of .РФ registrations, caused by the fact that many users don’t renew previously registered domain names. According to Andrey Kolesnikov, these jumps are common for all new TLDs, to which .РФ belongs. It is expected this unstable situation will continue for another three to four years.

The conference in Budva will last till September 13. FAITID representatives are to make presentations on the event. Dmitry Burkov, the Chairman of the FAITID Board, will speak on the key legislative initiatives aimed at combating the spread of illegal content on the Internet. The presentation to be made by Vasiliy Dolmatov, the Foundation’s Board member, is dedicated to the OpenFlow technology. Pavel Khramtsov, the Foundation’s Board member, will present an overview of the key forms of cybercrime, associated with the use of DNS. The Foundation’s President, Alexander Panov, will speak about the possibilities for usage of .MOSCOW and .МОСКВА domains as a ground for the unified information space of Russian capital.
